As a photographer I am drawn to the natural beauty of flora, fauna and the breathtaking landscapes and seascapes of our environs. In recent years I have also been captivated by the translation of this beauty into the field of architectural design and construction...the interplay of space, form, light and texture in the built environment. I am inspired by the art of: Georgia O’Keefe, Frida Kahlo, Clarice Beckett, Vanessa Bell, Chagall, Mark Rothko, Alfred Turner, Elspeth Vaughan the Architecture of Santiago Calatrava, Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Antonio Palladio ... the Photography of Annie Leibowitz, Julia Margaret Cameron, Bresson, Bill Brandt, Modotti, Doisneau ... and the Sculpture of Michelangelo, Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Anthony Gormley, Suzanne Bellamy As a digital storyteller I am interested in the dialogic and interactive process of story creation using non-linear multimedia. I enjoy the way in which I am able to use his as a device to excavate memories and bring life to photos and film that may fade away in time. I am also a film ‘tragic’ and continue to relish the directorial output of Ken Loach, Ferzan Ozpetek, Fatih Akin, Magaretta von Trotta, Marlene Gorris, Tracey Moffatt, Jane Campion ... As an academic I enjoy immersing myself in the humanities. Literature, philosophy and Education are of primary interest. I am a reflective practitioner who is passionate about my role as a teacher. My favourite writers include The Bloomsbury Group especially Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville West, Jeanette Winterson, Jose Saramago, Italo Calvino, Salman Rushdie, William Shakespeare, Susan Sontag, Suniti Namjoshi, Walter Benjamin, Christa Wolf, bell hooks, Milan Kundera, Simone de Beauvoir, Franz Kafka... and the poetry of Adrienne Rich, Sujata Bhatt, Alice Walker, Susan Hawthorne, Rilke, Emily Dickinson, ... My life is suffused by an eclectic palette of music which is completely mood dependant and can range from classic and opera to world music and country. Among my favourite artists are Verdi, Puccini Cristina Branco, Cecilia Bartoli, k d Lang, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Peggy Lee, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Mark Knopfler, Sarah Vaughan, Cesaria Evora, Aretha Franklin, Ravi Shankar, Sheila Chandra, Emmylou Harris ...and the list goes on.
